FORD RANGER NEXT GEN V6
In 2022, Ford released the next evolution of its popular Ranger line-up – known as the Next Generation T6.2, or just “Next-Gen” Ranger. These new models feature a much bolder exterior design, a heavily upgraded interior & big improvements in both on-road performance & off-road capability. Interior tech & presentation have taken giant leaps forward too, making it one of the most comfortable & user-friendly utes in the market today. The Next-Gen Ranger is available with a couple of engine options, including the 3.0-litre ‘Lion’ V6 turbo-diesel – a first for the Ranger. It puts out 184kW & 600Nm of torque, giving it the most grunt in the four-wheel-drive ute class. It’s a great engine, but the factory intercooler setup is a bit of a letdown. It’s small & inefficient, causing bad heat-soak under load, which limits tuning potential. Replacing it with a quality aftermarket intercooler is highly recommended & is a must if the vehicle is towing – providing for much safer & better performance gains when tuning. At this stage, the 2.0L 4-cylinder engine (also available in some Next-Gen Rangers) can’t be tuned or remapped, but the V6 opens up solid options for reliable upgrades.
