Unlock your engine’s hidden potential!

Unlocking your engine's hidden potential with remapping.

By now you would be familiar with the terms, remapping, flash tuning, dyno tuning etc…

But what does it all mean?

So let’s start at the beginning. All modern vehicles have a computer that controls almost every function of how the vehicle drives and operates.  In our case,  we are interested in the ECU or PCM which controls the engine., in particular the software contained in the ECU.  When we “Remap” your ECU we concentrate on the areas of the software that control the air and fuel delivery into the engine.  Believe it or not, your factory “Tune” program is holding back your engine from reaching its full potential. The low down “lag” that is so common in modern turbo diesels is not the engine or the turbo, in fact it is the factory tune limiting the amount of torque that is delivered to the wheels. So in order to broaden the torque curve and reduce lag,  we alter a range of maps, including torque request, torque limit, injector quantity and angle.  Depending on the vehicle, we might also alter boost maps and other areas of the fuel management tables,  all with in the factory set limits.

Why doesn’t the manufacturer do this from standard?

A manufacturer has to make compromises to allow for the fact the vehicle will be sold in many different countries, with different fuel qualities, different air density, even just allowing for different driving styles. However, with every new model update , a manufacturer will increase the power and torque, releasing a bit more of the potential each time.

What is the difference between remapping and flash tuning?

Although it has effectively become one and the same,  we prefer to say that remapping is the art of altering the ecu’s software, where as flash tuning or flashing is the method of getting the software in and out of the ecu. Most of the vehicles we tune these days, are accessed through the OBDII diagnostic port under the steering wheel.

Is it important to get my vehicle “Tuned” on a dyno?

Absolutely…. A dyno is used to simulate driving conditions,  as well as monitoring Air Fuel Ratios (AFR’s), Boost Pressure and Exhaust Gas Temperatures (EGT’s). Without it, we would be unable to monitor and customize the tune to suit your vehicle. We are also able to tell if there is any underlying issues with the vehicle that would prevent us from achieving the desired result,  such as blocked EGR’s and intake manifolds,  boost leaks, faulty turbo actuators etc etc….

Will I use more fuel?

In most cases,  the opposite is true. Because you  have more power and torque available, you won’t have give as much right foot in order to get up to speed and so you will be off the throttle sooner.

So what can I expect from a remap?

A quality remap will give you more Power and Torque across a broader rev range. This equates to less turbo “lag”, better throttle response, improved drivability, easier towing, safer overtaking and improved fuel economy.

What is the Ultimate Diesel Tuning difference?

Most tuning shops use industry standard equipment to be able to read and write (flash) the tune into the ECU. Our intellectual property is our tune files, which are developed and written in house for Australian conditions. This means that we can customise each tune file to suit your vehicle and the intended use.
